One of the most important functions in the Sequoia cutting system is the so-called "Source-Destination Edit". Originally, this function was adopted from video editing tables or the corresponding audio cutting tables, which save data on video tape. The introduction of the hard disk editing system has refined this basic functionality further and is today used in classical music production and mastering in particular, which places the highest demands on cutting and precision.
The edit markers are of key importance in this case. They define the precise position within the audio material even before the actual edit is carried out. Furthermore, the source and destination tracks are also allocated unambiguously before editing (source or destination track). Source or destination editing can be applied to the normal multi-channel project. Two different modes are available, S/D special mode and the multi-source project.
The source track marks the audio track containing the source material, and lets you set the marker "Source-In-Point" and "Source-Out-Point" markers, i.e. the start and finish of the audio segment you want to place in the destination audio.
The material is copied into the destination track. This will form the final edited version of the project., within which you can find the final product edit decision list after completing all edits. You can now specify the destination-in and destination-out points.
The definitions of a track as a source or destination track is performed by right-clicking in a free space of the track info box. In the same context menu in "Source/Destination cut" you can also specify the number of tracks. You can also define an indefinite number of tracks that belong together as a source/destination.
Any number of adjacent tracks can be defined as a source/destination.
Each track can then also be a source and destination at the same time, for example, for cutting material from the end the beginning, or for making it easier to select takes.
In-point markers define the starting point of an edit.
Out-point markers define the end point of an edit.
The in and out markers can be set using the "4-point cut" toolbar with the following standard keyboard shortcuts:
Source In Point Ctrl+Home
Source Out Point Ctrl+End
Destination In Point Shift+Home
Destination Out Point Shift+End
Ctrl+Shift lets you set general in and out points.
Edit markers can be deleted using the "Delete destination points" and "Delete source points" commands; however, you can also set new markers without having to delete these first.
